Lynn McMurray was raised in Cambridge, Ontario, where she started piano lessons at age 6, beginning a life-long pursuit in musicianship. Since completing her Bachelor of Music in Music Education in Voice Studies, her Masters in Music Education at the University of Toronto, and being awarded with the William Croombs Memorial Scholarship awarded to a student with special interest in elementary music education, Lynn has enjoyed a great variety of musical pursuits both on and off the podium.
Some of Lynn’s past performing highlights include singing with the University of Toronto MacMillan Singers, with the Bach Festival Singers under the direction of Doreen Rao, performing as a Chorus Member in the 2009 production of R. Murray Schafer’s The Children’s Crusade, performing with the Black Creek Summer Music Festival Professional Chorus, highlighted by a performance featuring Placid Domingo, as well as a variety of other vocal engagements around the city.
Lynn is now going into her 10th year as alto soloist at Fairlawn Avenue United Church under the direction of renowned Canadian choral composer Eleanor Daley, and she enjoys a varied career as a freelance choral singer. Lynn is also teaching private voice and piano lessons at Crescent School in North Toronto and she is the Assistant Director of Muzart Music and Art School in Etobicoke.
As a conductor, Lynn has had the privilege of working with several Toronto-based ensembles, including Common Thread Community Chorus, Common Thread Kids, The Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus, The University of Toronto Women’s Chamber Choir and is currently an Associate Conductor for the Bach Children’s Chorus under famed Canadian Conductor Linda Beaupre.
Now settled in Mississauga, Lynn enjoys practicing her second favourite art, the art of baking, and having arguments over piano time with her pianist/composer husband, Sharbel.
